Nothing says spring as well as the American Robin. The American Robin is a large song bird commonly seen in urban areas of North America. These industrious birds are popular for their cheerful song as they announce spring. In urban areas they inhabit parks, golf courses and yards. They are strong fast and straight fliers.
The American Robin inhabit deciduous woodlands, fields, pastures, mountains pine forests and wilderness and tundra regions. They can be seen inhabiting areas that have regenerated after forest fires and logging disruptions. The American Robin can be found as far north as Alaska.
Known for its long legs, orange breast and greyish black wings and back the robin, in flight a white patch can be seen on it’s under belly. Males and females are similar in appearance with the main difference being the paler head of the female. Both sexes have a length of 7- 11 inches and a wingspan of 12 -15 inches. The American Robin is the largest thrush found in North America. Most robins do not migrate and spend winters within their breeding areas.
